Proposal

Abstract

We propose to improve the current wireless charging technology and apply it to every family. We have done the comparison and contrast between our innovation and others; It showed that our improvement in wireless charging technology has more advantages. We also listed the materials, labors, and cost of our innovation as well as the process and mechanism.

Project: Innovation to wireless charging

Introduction

Wireless charging was invented at the end of the 20th century. Most of what we see is Bluetooth, bluetooth is similar to radio wave technology but unlike radio waves bluetooth is for shorter distances. Its main functions are data conversion and information transportation, real life examples of the use of bluetooth would be connecting a headset to your phone to drive and talk safely, another would be connecting your mouse to the computer wirelessly. So it’s obvious that we can transfer data wirelessly so the next step would be energy, meaning the ability to charge your phone wirelessly. The current wireless charging technology allows you to put your device on a wireless charging pad, so that it can charge your device. Examples of this would be from samsung, insignia, nomad, and many more, all of these are brands that have manufactured a wireless charging pad. This charging technology saves time because you don’t have to plug the cable all the time. But we strive for more our goal is to improve the current wireless charging technology to become absolute “wireless”, which means no wires no pads at all.  We want to be able to use wireless charging at home so that your device can be charged wherever and whenever you are at home.

Our innovation is based on the existing foundation as discussed before, so that the device does not need a wireless charging bracket to achieve the effect of charging.  The advantage of our innovation is that you can use the device (mainly the mobile phone) while charging and without having to plug it in or placing it on a charging pad, and you can efficiently charge your device anywhere within an effective distance.

Technical Description

Precondition: The wireless charger consist of a wireless power transmitter and sensor(figure 1), and a phone(figure 2), which consist of a wireless power receiver and switch bottom.

1. First, the wireless charger takes power from the socket.

2. When the transmitter and receiver reach to the same frequency, they will create a electromagnetic field to each other; Then the wireless power transmitter can launch the power to the receiver. This phenomenon is called magnetic resonance ( one of the ways to implement wireless power transportation) .

3. When the receiver on the phone receives the power, it charges it to the battery.

4. The sensor on the wireless charger is designed to receive signals from the phone.

5. The switch on the phone is meant to control the time it takes to charge.

Other engineering innovations

We found an another research paper, which called Wireless Charging of a Mental-Body Device by Nathan Seongheon Jeong and Francesco Carobolante, to compare with our innovation. Their paper focuses on charging a mobile phone through a metal case. First, they designed a metal case the size of a mobile phone. Then they put the phone inside the case, which is mounted on a signal receiver (a mat). Their experimental results show that the wireless charging method is feasible and also allowed multiple mobile phones to charge from the same receiver.

Our innovation is to install the power receiver inside the phone, and our phone will always be tied to the wireless charger. That means other phones won’t be able to use the charger. We will also design a power transmitter on top of the wireless charger so that it can transmit power to our mobile phone through waves. The advantage of our innovation is that you can use your phone while you’re charging it, and you can charge it anywhere in home with your phone. In contrast, Nathan’s experiment did not allow you to use your phone while it was charging unless you took it out. The receiver for his experiment needed wires. So our innovation is more free and convenient in use.

Process Of The Innovation

The materials that will be required is; a wireless power transmitter(figure 3), a wireless power receiver(figure 3), a sensor(figure 4), and a switch function.

Wireless Power Transmitter: A device that transmits wireless electrical power by magnetic resonance.

Wireless Power Receiver: A device that receives electrical power from a wireless transmitter.

Sensor: A device for receiving signals.

Switch: A charging switch (like the one on the cell phone that controls volume).

Cost and Labor

We will require a division of  teams, each prompted with a different task. The two main tasks would be to figure out how to put a wireless power transmitter on a charger, and how to put a wireless receiver on a phone. We will need a powerful transmitter and receiver to charge our phone in a distance. However, the more powerful transmitter we need, the bigger size of transmitter and receiver we need base on the current technology. Therefore, we need to minimize the size of both, and it takes a lot of time to figure it out.We will also need two more people to install the sensor and the charging switch. Nonetheless, because our innovation is still a theory of perception, the research and experimentation will have to be carried on until the desired results are confirmed. It is difficult to estimate a budget cost for this project overall being that there are so many variables that have yet to be determined but the innovation will require at least $500,000 to carry out the works and for patents/certifications.

Conclusion

Our innovation is mainly to improve the existing wireless charging technology, so our main work is how to build our wireless charger and receiver. When we’re done, we’ll plug a simple charger into the socket of our home. The reason we chose to use our innovation in our homes is that it doesn’t require a lot of coverage and doesn’t create a lot of radiation. “The one of the best ways to avoid radiation is to use any devices with cord” (Ten tip. 2019). Everything that related to wireless are all caused radiation. Although a large part of our innovation is concept, it is likely to be realized in the future, because our design conforms to logic. If we were to use our wireless charging technology at home, as we know it today, we would need a power transmitter as big as a wall. However, like the first computer and the current computer, there is a huge difference, so I believe that our innovation may be realized in the future.

Self-Reflection

  1. It is hard for me to distinguish what kind of audience I am facing. All I can do is the same as I always do. However, I use the parenthesized definition for some of my field terms, which I learned for this course. I also realized that comparison and contrast are the good rhetorical way to analyze stuff. In this proposal assignment, we use that to make a brief description of the audience the differences between our innovation and others.
  2. I feel self-assessment isn’t worked well for me because I am weak on that; I rather like pair review. We just did the pair review last week, and I think it helps me a lot. I notice that I got some many errors or mistakes on my proposal; These mistakes help me to adjust my paper as well as the notification for the future works. I did the reading, drafting, revising, and editing for every assignment because it is efficient, and now I am used to it.
  3. I don’t care about what do audiences think. When I was doing my assignment, the only thing I need to think about is the whole structure of the work and make sure I follow the rubric. I might not put new ideas, but I do always use my writing style.
  4. The proposal is group work. Every group has four members, and everyone takes care of their part and integrate them at the end. We created a google document and add everything we have done so far; then we will pick one to do the integration. We have distinct working aspects, and we all keep on touch.
  5. I don’t think I engaged in genre analysis and multimodal composing in our proposal, but I participated in a different field, which isn’t computer science. Thus I spent some time on google to figure out what is the concept of our innovation.
  6. On our proposal assignment, I think the stance of my group mates and I is why our innovation is better than the innovation for others. That is my goal we need to keep through the whole proposal and even the presentation.
  7. I have sought for some resources to support our thesis and prove our innovation is better than others. Thus I found a source for our introduction, another source for the comparison and contrast, and the last one for preventing radiation.
  8. I did quote, analyzing, citing sources, etc. I didn’t use some of them is because they probably not necessary in this proposal assignment. On the other hand, I think not every assignment or paper need to use all of them. (Evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources).
